BİR VEFA ÖRNEĞİ ve HACHIKO
AN EXAMPLE OF FIDELITY AND HACHIKO
1924 yılında Tokyo Üniversitesi’nde görev yapan Japon Profesör Ueno, kendine tren istasyonunda bulduğu küçük bir köpek yavrusu edindi. Profesör Ueno köpeğine, Japoncada “sekiz tane” anlamına gelen Hachiko adını koydu.
Safkan akita cinsi beyaz bir erkek olan Hachiko, her sabah üniversiteye gitmek için evden metroya yürüyen sahibine eşlik etti. Metronun dış kapısına kadar getirdiği sahibini uğurladıktan sonra da eve döndü.Çok geçmeden bir akşam üniversite dönüşünde metronun çıkışında Hachiko’yu kendisini beklerken gördü profesör ve çok şaşırdı. Bu akıllı köpek sahibinin eve dönüş saatlerini hesaplayarak ve aynı yolu kullanacağını düşünerek metronun önüne gitmişti.
AN EXAMPLE OF FIDELITY AND HACHIKO
Ondan sonraki bir yıl boyunca her sabah Sahibini metroya kadar götürdü, her akşam iş çıkışında da metronun önünde karşıladı. Saatini hiç şaşırmadı.
Ama bir akşam profesör metrodan çıkmadı. Hachiko gözleri metronun kapısında, gece boyunca
bekledi.
Bir sonraki akşam profesör yine yoktu. Üçüncü akşam metrodan yine çıkmadı. Çünkü profesör üniversitede kalp krizi geçirip ölmüştü.Hachiko her akşam sahibim metrodan çıkar diye inatla bekledi. Haftalar, aylar, yıllar boyunca her akşam Tokyo Metrosu’nun Shibuya İstasyonu’nun kapısına gitti. Tam 10 yıl boyunca…

KÜTÜPHANE KEDİSİ DEWEY
LIBRARY CAT DEWEY
Yıl 1998, soğuk bir ocak akşamı. Spencer’daki kütüphanenin kitap iade kutusuna bir misafir bırakılır. Bırakılan şey bu defa kalın ciltli bir kitap değil; ufacık, durmadan hareket edip miyavlayan yemyeşil gözlü, sapsarı bir kedi yavrusudur.
Kütüphanecilerin sahiplendiği kedicik o günden sonra hayatının tamamını kütüphanede geçirir ve zamanla bu küçük kasabanın maskotu haline gelir.Kitap raflarının tepelerine tırmanıp uyumaya, kitap okuyanlar okudukları kitaba daldıklarında aniden kucaklarına atlamaya ve kitap arabası ile gezintilere çıkmaya bayılan kediye Dewey adı konulur.

Dewey Readmore Books was the resident cat at Spencer Public Library. He was put in the book return one cold January night in 1988. When the staff found him the next morning, they decided to adopt him. After the library's board of trustees and the city council approved, the kitten was declawed, neutered, and given the proper vaccinations. A contest was held to pick a name, and Dewey Readmore Books was officially added to the staff. The staff cared for Dewey and donated their pop cans to feed the kitty. Patrons and friends from as far away as New York have donated money for Dewey's food.
Dewey generated lots of publicity for the library. He was featured in the local paper, Country Magazine, Cat Fancy Magazine, on the Sioux City television stations, in books, and on postcards. He was a video star in "Puss in Books", a documentary about library cats. Of course, Dewey was already the star of the library. Many people came in just to see him. Dewey even had his own job description. Check out Dewey as a supervisor of our staff.
Dewey passed away on November 29, 2006 due to complications from a stomach tumor. He had become very frail because of hyperthyroid disease for which he was receiving medication. He died in the arms of the library director, Vicki Myron. He had celebrated his 19th birthday eleven days before he died. Although Dewey is gone, he will be remembered by thousands of people whom he cheered by simply being a loving presence in the library. Although we may get another library cat, Dewey will never be replaced. The library won't be the same without Dewey.

John Ungar henüz yavruyken evine aldığı köpeği Schoep hastalanınca tüm insanlara örnek olacak bir davranış sergiliyor. 8 aylıkken kendisine eziyet eden sahibinin elinden kurtardığı ve depresyonda olduğu bir dönemde sahiplendiği bu köpeğin kendisine iyi geldiğini söylüyor.

John Ungar adopted a little dog and named him as Schoep. When his dog became ill John did something that would be a model to many people. He took this dog from someone who was torturing him. He was in a deep depression then and the dog healed his pain. When his dog had arthritis we went to the lake everyday to help him get rid of hid pain even a little.

In Spring 2007, James returned home to find a ginger cat in the hallway of his building; assuming it belonged to another resident, he simply returned to his flat. When the cat was still there the following day, and the day after that, James became concerned and discovered the cat was wearing no collar or ID tag, and had an infected wound on his leg. James checked with other residents to see if the stray belonged to any of them, and when none of them claimed ownership of the animal James decided to help the cat himself. He took the cat to a nearby veterinary surgery run by an animal charity, which provided antibiotics to treat the infected wound. James decided to take him in for a time while he continued to look for the stray’s owner. When he couldn’t find any information, he released the cat back on to the street, hoping he’d find his own way home. Instead, he began to follow James around, even following him onto the bus when he left to go busking. Concerned that the cat had nowhere else to go, James took him in on a permanent basis, naming him Bob.
Now James says “I believe it came down to this little man. He came and asked me for help, and he needed me more than I needed to abuse my own body. He is what I wake up for every day now... he’s definitely given me the right direction to live my life.

Faith, a bipedal female dog, was born in December 2002 in the United States with three legs; two fully developed hind legs and a deformed front leg, which was amputated when she was seven months old after it began to atrophy. Her owner, Jude Stringfellow, adopted Faith when the mother dog was found trying to smother the deformed puppy—her son rescued the puppy and brought her home. Many people, including veterinarians, advised that Faith be euthanized. Instead, using a spoon with peanut butter as an incentive, Jude taught Faith to hop but Faith began to walk on her own; the family's corgi would bark at Faith from another room, or nip her heels to urge her to walk.
Faith is not the only two-legged walking dog but probably the most famous.

Yaşamı boyunca birlikte dolaştığı Kaptan Matthew Flinders’ın en sadık dostu olmuş.
Fransız otoriteleri tarafından kendilerine yöneltilen casusluk suçlamasıyla, birlikte tutsak düştükleri Mauritius’ta, Kaptan tarafından daha iyi bakılması amacıyla verildiği Fransız hanımın evinde ortadan yok olmuş ve kara yaşantısına alışık olmayan Trim’den bir daha haber alınamamış.
İyi eğitimli, iyi bir gözlemci, iyi bir denizci olarak ün kazanmış Trim. Görev yaptığı bütün gemilerde, bütün denizcilerle ama özellikle aşçılarla hep iyi dost olmuş.
Mutfaktan sadece bir kere nefsine hakim olamayıp kuru et (bir kuzu kolu) yürütmüş. Gemideki balık tartısında ölçüldüğüne göre 10-12 pound ağırlığında olan, uzun ve geniş kuyruklu, küçük kafalı, açık gri renkli, beyaz patili ve göğsünde de yıldız şeklinde bir beyazlık bulunan Trim, yemeklerini hep herkesten 15 dakika önce gelip hazır bulunduğu yüzbaşıların yemekhanesi olan silâh odasında yemiş, yüzbaşıların rızkına kibarca ortak olmuş. Kaptan emir verdiğinde, cesur Trim mizana direğine hep herkesten önce tırmanmış, aşağı inerken de denizcilerin güvenli kollarını kullanmış.
Kaptan Flinders, adadaki sekiz yıllık tutsaklığı süresinde, sadık dostu Trim’in anısına bir methiye kaleme almış. Yıllarca Greenwich’teki National Maritime Museum (Ulusal Denizcilik Müzesi) arşivinde saklı kalmış olan bu methiye, tekrar günışığına çıktıktan sonra ilk kez 1973’te basılmış.
1996’da acar denizci Trim’in bronz bir heykeli Sidney’deki Mitchell Kütüphanesi’ne denizci bandosu eşliğinde törenle yerleştirilmiş. Kütüphanenin ayrıca bir de Trim heykelcikleri ve hediyelik eşyaları da satan Café Trim adlı bir cafesi bulunuyor.
Trim was the ship's cat on a number of the ships under the command of Matthew Flinders during voyages to circumnavigate and map the coastline of Australia during 1801-03. He became a favourite of the crew and was the first cat to circumnavigate Australia. He remained with Flinders until death. A statue to Trim was later erected in his honour, and he has been the subject of a number of works of literature. A statue sits on a window sill on the outside of the State Library, in Sydney, Australia.
